As previously mentioned, blogs have been gaining popularity since the term “weblog” was coined in December 1997 by Jorn Bargar (Wortham, 2007) Since then, there have been so many different types of blogs catering to its specific target audience and its needs. Because of the millions of blogs today, there is a need to classify them through tags, labels and more. (What is Blogging & Types of Blogs [DETAILS] 2011) explains about the 5 different types of blogs according to different niches which are: corporate, niche, personal, forum and review blogs.
This is however is compared to Australian author and freelance journalist, Margaret Simons, she mentions that there are 9 types of blogs (Simons, 2008).
1. Pamphleteering blogs : Individuals or groups discuss about a cause or issue
2. The Digest blog : A set of information from other resources
3. The Advocacy blog : Similar to pamphleteering blogs, but they have an opinion about a specialized topic
4. The Popular Mechanics blog : Teaches the public something in a how-to manner
5. Exhibition blog : Owned by writers, craftsmen, artists and more to showcase their work to the public
6. The Gatewatcher blog : Watches over the media
7. The Diary : A personal diary that is public for anyone on the internet
8. The Advertisement : A blog designed for advertising purposes
9. The News blog : A kind of informative blog about breaking news
Both classifications have similarities but Simons provides a clearer classification of blogs which seem more appropriate than the one provided on Hellbound bloggers.
Personally, I think it's a good thing that we have distinct types of blogs because it serves its intended purpose and its definitely easier to access as well.
